Over 30 years of experience protecting Our client's best interests.
We are proud to represent both women and men. Historically, after helping thousands of clients, our cases have always been evenly balanced between genders.
Our balanced approach extends to our opinion that a couple is a couple, and a family is a family regardless of makeup. As a result, individuals who are part of a same-sex pair and opposite-sex couple are among those clients we are proud to serve. See what some of our happy clients have to say:
Family Law Frequently Asked Questions
If you are involved in a situation that may require a family lawyer, it can be intimidating to know where to start. Reaching out to JM Law, we can help layout your first steps, aided by our advice and guidance. This process will include:
- Determining the parenting agreements immediately after a separation
- Deciding on the appropriate amount of child support or spousal support, if any
- Making arrangements for living in the home
There is a voluntary option for either party to move out of the home. Additionally, if children are involved, we will help you arrange a clear schedule before moving and agree on what contents will be removed from the home.
If this is violence or threats of violence, call the police immediately. They will decide if criminal charges are necessary and aid in one party leaving home for the night or an extended period.
After you have reached out via form, or phone, we will contact you to learn more about your situation and what we can do to assist with your family law process.
Our first meeting helps us understand the stage you are currently at in your relationship and chart out a potential path that will efficiently get you to a successful agreement or resolution. You will receive recommendations about what is in your best interest, but the final decision will remain yours.
In the instance of cohabitation or marriage, we will discuss various scenarios that might be most helpful in determining solid protection of personal and business assets. Concerning separation and divorce, we will decide together to proceed, whether through mediation, arbitration, or a court application.

With our clients, privacy and confidentiality are of utmost importance. We treat both with seriousness and respect. As a law firm, we work according to the Rules of Professional Conduct and strive to protect you and your interests.
Our goal is to handle the legal side of your personal affairs as cost-efficiently as possible. After you have reached out via form, email, or phone, and your consultation is booked, we recommend the following tips to serve you better.
First, please bring any documents or materials related to your situation as this will save you time and costs. After reaching out and explaining your case, we will provide suggestions of what documents to gather and bring to your appointment.
We are available to book appointments during regular weekday business hours, subject to court appearances and other client meetings. When you reach out, we get a list of available times and work with your schedule.
Finally, if you are reaching out regarding separation, we recommend that, to the extent possible, your household continues to function as it has up until the process has been finalized. For example, if both parties have traditionally deposited income to a joint bank account from which the household bills were paid, that should continue until we can make other arrangements.
Our initial consultation is billed at Jacqueline’s hourly rate. Usually, it is one-hour increments that include a full assessment of your family law situation and our professional and certified advice on how best to proceed.
Invoices are issued on a regularly scheduled basis discussed with you when we begin work. We do not act on a contingency basis where you pay when the matter is concluded. Payments may be made by cash, cheque, or credit card.
Additionally, it can be challenging to forecast what your legal costs will be without a consultation. Much of the fee depends on the nature of the issues and disputed items. To find out more information, fill out the form, or call us directly to learn more about our fee structure.
